Over 130 Years of Country Hospitality
Thought to be Boonah's oldest pub building in some circles, the heritage of the Dugandan Hotel dates back to the 1880s when the building was first established by Carl Stumer. The Dugandan did not actually become a hotel until 1913 however, trading as a general store for its first few decades.
The original hotel design included accommodation, a cellar, water tanks to ensure cool liquor, as well as a kitchen and servants' rooms. It was a building designed for the Queensland climate and the needs of a growing rural community — a place where travellers could rest, locals could gather, and the spirit of the bush could be celebrated with a cold drink and a warm welcome.
The name Dugandan itself is believed to come from the Ugarapul word dugai or tugai, meaning "mountain spur place" — a fitting description for this corner of the Scenic Rim that the hotel has called home for well over a century.
Over the years the Dugie has survived natural disasters including the devastating 2011 Queensland floods, as well as undergoing renovations including a new deck and beer garden affectionately named "The Chook Yard".
Throughout it all, The Dugie retains its traditional country pub charm and continues to entertain locals and visitors to the area — hopefully for another century to come.
